I transcribe, and not a word leaves the house

Transcription is carried out entirely on your machine, courtesy of Whisper. No cloud, no server, no prying ears: your conversations remain strictly between us.

I draft the minutes and extract the tasks

The moment the session ends, I write proper structured minutes and enter each action in your ledger: who does what, and by when. You confirm my understanding; I file everything away.

Your notes remain your property

Everything rests in a folder of Markdown files: readable, editable, Obsidian compatible. The day you dismiss me, you take everything with you. No butler worthy of the name locks anything away.

What is said under your roof stays under your roof.

I am built in two clearly separate parts. Read this before you record anything sensitive.

Part one — Transcription, entirely local

Transcription, in residence

Whisper works on your machine, offline. Your recordings are sent nowhere, to no one.

Files, not an opaque database

Your notes are Markdown files resting on your disk, readable with any editor you please.

No lock-in whatsoever

Obsidian compatible. Dismiss me tomorrow: you keep everything, in an open format.

Part two — Where AI comes in

Everything above never leaves your machine. Everything below sends text — never audio — to Claude, using your own Anthropic key or my AlfredIA subscription.

Minutes, drafted for you

Once a recording ends, its transcript travels to Claude to become structured, readable minutes.

Tasks, extracted from those minutes

The same text yields your task list: an owner and a deadline for each.

Your day, prepared each morning

The "Today" brief on your home screen asks Claude to summarise your recent notes and tasks.

Ask me anything, I search your files

Put a question to me: I gather the relevant passages from your notes and send them, with your question, to Claude.

I can act on your notes too

From that same conversation, I may create, edit or archive notes and tasks at your instruction — never a hard delete.

The context you give me at onboarding

Your very first recording, where you describe yourself and your company, is sent to Claude to become your personal context file.

A glossary, tuned to your world

That context yields a list of your proper nouns, fed back into Whisper so it spells your names and jargon correctly.

Two ways to reach Claude

Your own Anthropic key

Requests travel directly from your machine to Anthropic's API. Nothing passes through do·now's servers.

The AlfredIA subscription

Nothing to configure: requests are routed through my proxy, which holds a shared key, solely to serve that request.

Why "Alfred"?

My illustrious namesake, Alfred Pennyworth, does not save Gotham. He does something finer: he makes Batman possible. While the hero takes the blows, someone keeps the house, prepares what is needed, remembers every detail and offers the right counsel at the right moment.

If you carry responsibility, you know this fight: days filled with meetings, decisions stacked upon decisions, commitments made aloud that evaporate before nightfall. You are the Batman of your organisation; and nobody is keeping the house.

FAQ

You have questions; I have answers.

Where do my recordings go?

Nowhere, I assure you. Audio is kept on your disk and transcribed on your machine by Whisper — that step never touches a network. Only text, and only for the minutes, the tasks, the Today brief and our conversations, travels through the Claude API; the audio itself, never.

What exactly do you send to Claude?

Only the text four things require: the minutes I draft from a transcript, the tasks I pull from those minutes, the "Today" brief each morning, and our conversations when you ask me a question and I fetch the relevant passages from your notes. Never the raw audio, and never anything beyond what each task needs.

Is it Obsidian compatible?

Perfectly. I write standard Markdown files, wikilinks, tags and frontmatter included, into a folder of your choosing. You may open the very same vault in Obsidian, alongside or afterwards.

Do I need a Claude key?

As you prefer. Bring your own Anthropic API key: the application is free and you pay Anthropic for your usage. Or subscribe to AlfredIA at €20 a month: nothing to configure, I attend to everything.

Which platforms?

I serve on macOS (Apple Silicon), Windows 10/11 (x64) and Linux (AppImage, .deb, .rpm).

Does Alfred work offline?

For recording and transcription, yes: it all happens under your roof. Minutes, task extraction, the Today brief and chat require a connection, just long enough to consult Claude.

Will the code be open?

The github.com/do-now-io/alfred repository goes public very soon. Stars, I confess, never fail to please me.

macOS or Windows blocks the install. Is that normal?

At this stage, yes: my binaries are not yet signed. On macOS: right-click → Open. On Windows: "More info" → "Run anyway". Signing is on its way; do forgive the slight inconvenience.
